I, Doctor Martin Luther, wish all lovers of the unshackled art of music grace and peace from God the Father and from our Lord Jesus Christ!
I truly desire that all Christians would love and regard as worthy, the lovely gift of music which is a precious, worthy, and costly treasure given to mankind by God.
The riches of music are so excellent and so precious that words fail me whenever I attempt to discuss and describe them.... In sum, next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, hearts, and spirits...
Our dear fathers and prophets did desire that music be always used in the churches. Hence, we have so many songs and psalms.
This precious gift has been given to man alone that he might thereby remind himself that God has created man for the express purpose of praising and extolling God.
However, when man's natural musical ability is whetted and polished to the extent that it becomes an art, then do we note with great surprise the great and perfect wisdom of God in music, which is, after all, His product and His gift; we marvel when we hear music in which one voice sings a simple melody, while three, four, or five other voices play and trip lustily around the voice that sings its simple melody and adorn this simple melody wonderfully with artistic musical effects, thus reminding us of a heavenly dance, where all meet in a spirit of friendliness, caress and embrace.
A person who gives this some thought and yet does not regard music as a marvelous creation of God, must be a clodhopper indeed and does not deserve to be called a human being; he should be permitted to hear nothing but the braying of asses and the grunting of hogs.
Martin Luther states that music is a precious gift from God. Music can be an art in which it produces compositions that not only give glory to God, but give your neighbor enjoyment. - Donald Livingston
ReplyDeleteI am starting to like classical music, and I think if you are preaching the word of God by Classical music than it is a good thing. And that is what Luther was doing.

You can see that Luther truly cherished music and new that it was a gift from God. Also he said that if you do not love music than you should not be called a human being and all they should hear is the braying of asses’ and the grunting of hogs.
ReplyDeleteMusic is a gift from God and should be used to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Martin Luther says that music is a precious gift that has been given to mankind and that God created man for the sole purpose of glorifying and praising God.

Music is a gift from God. Martin Luther wrote hymns to praise and glorify God. I can see that Luther really enjoyed music and that he knew it was a gift from God. When we are singing in the choir, we are singing to glorify God and edify the listeners. I am so thankful that God gave us such an extraordinary tool called music. In Psalms, it talks alot about singing and playing on instruments. Music is a very powerful tool and I can see that Luther truly understood that.- Ann Marie Michaelis
ReplyDeleteMusic is a gift from God, and Martin Luther knew that so he wanted everyone to cherish Music. Whatever you listen to will affect all your thoughts and work. Luther understood Solo Deo Gloria, meaning glory to God alone because he knew that all music should be to the glorification of God.Amen to Martin Luther.-Judah
ReplyDeleteMusic is used as a tool for man to give praise to God. Music is also a weapon, like when Jehoshaphat and his skilled musicians came out the city gates singing to the Lord, to find all there enemy's slain.- Joseph
ReplyDeleteWe can use music to proclaim the Gospel, but it can also be used for other things such as getting glory for yourself. Music should be for the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.

Music is a gift from God and a tool we can use to praise Him with and drive away unthankfulness. With music, we can also preach the Gospel to others. I'm very thankful for Bach and Marten Luther who wrote many hymns, many we sing in worship. - Leanna Haynes
ReplyDeleteLuther definetly regards music as a great gift of God and hoped that others would too. It is good to master how to sing and play music to glorify God and to rule the air, or, as Luther put it, our hearts, mind, thoughts, and spirit.

Music influences our thoughts, listening to music could go different ways for instance is what you're listening to what you what your thoughts to be based on music could either be good and to the glofication of God or it could be degrading.

Luther wanted to preach the glory of God through music. We can preach the glory of God by sing in the choir or even just sing a song throughout the house. If you don't regard music as a gift of God then you are a cloddhopper.

Luther preached God's word not only through speaking but also through music. God created us to glorify him and we can do that by playing music. - Joel Frost
ReplyDeleteMusic must be important for God to give to man and for our fathers to charish it for so long. We,today, should treasure it and use it only to glorify the Giver of music.
ReplyDeleteLauryn Caputo
Music is definitely a gift from the Lord that is a costly treasure. All music should be to the glory of the Lord not to any man. When you are singing as a choir there is unity.

Music is a great gift from God. I want to learn music so that I can preach the Gospel through it.
ReplyDeleteJim Hier
Luther preached God's word through writing music. Also, without Luther music there would be none of Bach's music. Also, Bach said that music should be for the glorifying of God and the refreshment of the soul.

I Agee with Martin Luther that music is one of the greatest gifts God has given us. When God's word is put to music it can set us free.it is a great gift that www should be open to recieving.
ReplyDeletePaul
Martin Luther said that music is a gift from God, not men. Bach believed that everything should be done to the glory of the Lord,so when we sing or do anything, all the glory should go to God, because He gave us the ability to do everything we do.
ReplyDeleteBach also pointed out that music drives away demons (1 Sammuel 16:23). Music of Praise can glorify God and edify your neighbor.
